Shining Pokémon are alternate-colour "shiny" cards, introduced in the Neo era (2001) with icons like Shining Charizard and Shining Gyarados. They were the first shiny chase treatment and were later revived in sets such as Shining Legends and Shining Fates.

Shining vs Gold Star

Both show shiny-coloured Pokémon, but Shining cards (2001, name-marked) predate the Gold Star cards (2004–2007, ☆-marked). The vintage Neo Shinings — especially Charizard — are the most valuable, with condition and grading driving the top prices.
