Record Pokémon card sale prices — real completed sales
The rankings above are current market value; below are real completed sales — the actual highest price each card has ever sold for, topped by a 1,020,000 CGC 10 Rayquaza ☆. Every figure is a real sale, not an estimate. A card can appear more than once when its separate printings (1st Edition, Shadowless, Unlimited) each hold their own record. Each row is what one graded copy fetched on the date shown, so it won't always match the live market value in the ranking above.
Real completed sale prices from Fanatics Collect — auctions and marketplace Buy It Now sales. Grade read from the listing title.
What makes a Pokémon card valuable?
The cards at the top of this list aren't just old — they sit at the intersection of four things that drive every Pokémon card's price. Understanding them is the fastest way to spot a grail in your own collection.
- Rarity — the scarcer the pull, the higher the ceiling. Secret Rares, gold cards and Special Illustration Rares dominate the top end.
- Condition & grading — a gem-mint PSA 10 can be worth many multiples of the same raw card. Centering, edges and surface all count.
- Age & 1st edition — early WOTC-era cards and first-edition printings carry a heavy premium.
- Popularity — Charizard, Pikachu and other fan-favourites always command more than obscure Pokémon of the same rarity.
PSA vs BGS vs CGC — why the same card prices differently by grading company
Every price on this page assumes a specific grading company because the same physical card is not worth the same amount from every one of them. PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) is the most widely traded grading company for Pokémon cards, so its PSA 10 is the reference grade most listings and most of this page's prices are built on. BGS (Beckett) grades on four separate sub-scores (centering, corners, edges, surface) as well as an overall number, and reserves its rarest label — the "Black Label" Pristine 10 — for a card scoring a perfect 10 on every sub-grade, not just the average. CGC began grading trading cards in 2020 and has grown quickly, but has a shorter track record and a smaller population of graded Pokémon cards than PSA, which affects how liquid a CGC-graded card is compared with the same card in a PSA holder.
Because of this, a card's market value is not one number — it is a ladder: raw, then each grading company's mid-grades, then that company's own gem-mint top grade. This page ranks by the highest of those (PSA 10 where a card has one), with the raw price shown alongside it so the size of the grading premium is visible, not hidden inside a single blended figure.
The most valuable Pokémon cards ever
The record books are ruled by prize cards made in tiny numbers — the Pikachu Illustrator promo has changed hands for millions, and high-grade first-edition Base Set Charizards remain the most famous chase card in the hobby. Trophy cards handed out at Japanese tournaments are rarer still. The grid above tracks the most valuable cards in our database, ranked live by current market value and updated daily.
Pikachu Illustrator and Trophy cards are not currently tracked in CardTrack's pricing catalogue — they are prize cards made in tiny numbers that rarely trade through the marketplaces this site prices from, so we don't show a live figure for them rather than estimate one.
